Hello, I am currently in a ACP program attempting to be
certified in Texas as a 4th - 8th grade Generalist. I just
found out about the fingerprinting law and criminal
background checks. In Texas, in addition to being
certified, you also have to observe teachers in a classroom
for 30 hrs. Initially, I've had to fill out applications to
be an observer in the classroom and I have passed all
background checks (after checking NO to all the crininal
information questions). I recieved a misdemeanor class B in
1994 for theft when I was 17 yrs old. I was given deffered
adjudication, after 3 months of probation. Teaching is my
passion and I'm finally pursuing my dream after a long
carrer in HR. I was wondering if I am waiting my time
pursuing a career change as a teacher? Could this
misdemeanor affect prevent me from getting certified
and /or obtaining a teaching position?
