Re: Still giving a minimum report card grade of 50?

My school district, a 4A district in East Texas, has done
away with the minimum grade of 50. I had a student make a 36
the first six weeks.
In high school especially, I am much in favor of giving the
students the grade they earn. With the lowest grade possible
of a 50, a student could blow off an entire semester and
still pass a year long class. Talk about causing a class
morale problem! My student can still pass the semester, but
he is going to have to do some work! A grade lower than a 50
on their report card really wakes some people up.
Yes, we want every student to be successful. However, I think
that we should reward the students who work and not the ones
who do not work. This new law allows that to happen.
I am not sure if it is mandatory or if the district has the
option.....like keeping the technology credit a graduation
requirement.
