Why not prepare the kid for life by giving him what he earns? I
wish I could get half pay for doing nothing. Do the math. One six
weeks grade below 50 (even a ZERO) won't fail a student for the
year if he doesn't wait too long to get his act together. I've
taught for more than 20 years, and the student who has gotten a
mandatory 50 and decides to turn things around is very, very rare.
This, of course, excludes those who ask what they can do to pass
the last week of school after doing diddly-squat the first 35 weeks.
